Abdullah ibn Maslamah al-Qa'nabi narrated to us from Malik, from Ibn Shihab, from Urwah, from Aishah, may Allah be pleased with her, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, used to take a bath from a vessel—namely the faraq—due to sexual impurity.
Abu Dawud said: Ma'mar narrated from al-Zuhri in this hadith: She said: I and the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, used to take a bath from a single vessel containing the amount of a faraq.
Abu Dawud said: Ibn Uyaynah narrated similarly to the hadith of Malik.
Abu Dawud said: I heard Ahmad ibn Hanbal say: The faraq is sixteen ritls. And I heard him say: The sa' of Ibn Abi Dhi'b is five and a third ritls. He said: Whoever said eight ritls, that is not preserved.
Abu Dawud said: I heard Ahmad say: Whoever gives five and a third ritls according to our ritl for zakat al-fitr has fulfilled it. It was said: The Saihani dates are heavy? Al-Saihani said: They are better. He said: I do not know.
