حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ، - يَعْنِي ابْنَ مَهْدِيٍّ - عَنْ زَائِدَةَ بْنِ قُدَامَةَ، عَنْ صَدَقَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا جُمَيْعُ بْنُ عُمَيْرٍ، - أَحَدُ بَنِي تَيْمِ اللَّهِ بْنِ ثَعْلَبَةَ - قَالَ دَخَلْتُ مَعَ أُمِّي وَخَالَتِي عَلَى عَائِشَةَ فَسَأَلَتْهَا إِحْدَاهُمَا كَيْفَ كُنْتُمْ تَصْنَعُونَ عِنْدَ الْغُسْلِ فَقَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلميَتَوَضَّأُ وُضُوءَهُ لِلصَّلاَةِ ثُمَّ يُفِيضُ عَلَى رَأْسِهِ ثَلاَثَ مَرَّاتٍ وَنَحْنُ نُفِيضُ عَلَى رُءُوسِنَا خَمْسًا مِنْ أَجْلِ الضَّفْرِ ‏.‏

Narrated Aisha, Ummul Mu'minin

Ya'qub ibn Ibrahim narrated to us: Abdurrahman—meaning Ibn Mahdi—narrated to us, from Za'idah ibn Qudamah, from Sadaqah, that Jumay' ibn Umayr—one of the sons of Banu Taym Allah ibn Tha'labah—said: I entered with my mother and my maternal aunt upon 'Aishah, and one of them asked her, "How used you to do at the bath?" 'Aishah replied, "The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, used to perform ablution like his ablution for prayer, then he would pour water over his head three times. As for us, we used to pour over our heads five times because of the braids."
