What Is Allowed Regarding Age For The Udhiyyah (Sacrifice)
Arabic hadith text
حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ، حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدٌ، عَنْ مُطَرِّفٍ، عَنْ عَامِرٍ، عَنِ الْبَرَاءِ بْنِ عَازِبٍ، قَالَ ضَحَّى خَالٌ لِي يُقَالُ لَهُ أَبُو بُرْدَةَ قَبْلَ الصَّلاَةِ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم "شَاتُكَ شَاةُ لَحْمٍ " . فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ عِنْدِي دَاجِنًا جَذَعَةً مِنَ الْمَعْزِ فَقَالَ " اذْبَحْهَا وَلاَ تَصْلُحُ لِغَيْرِكَ "
Translation
Narrated Al-Bara' ibn Azib
My maternal uncle, who was called Abu Burdah, sacrificed [an animal] before the prayer. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said to him: "Your sheep is [merely] a sheep for meat." He said: "O Messenger of Allah, I have a young female goat (jadh'ah) among my domestic livestock." He said: "Sacrifice it, but it will not suffice for anyone other than you."
