Abu al-Tufayl reported: ‘Fatimah came to Abu Bakr asking him for her inheritance from the Prophet ﷺ. Abu Bakr said, “I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: ‘When Allah, Mighty and Majestic, grants a Prophet a source of sustenance, it belongs to the one who takes charge after him.’”’

Notes and open questions — unreviewed
  • The Arabic uses ṭu‘mah, a provision or source of sustenance, and al-ladhi yaqumu min ba‘dihi, the one who takes charge after him. The text states the report without specifying further the administrative implications.

The phrase ‘belongs to the one who takes charge after him’ may refer to the Prophet’s successor in administering the property rather than personal inheritance.

Should the English retain the literal phrase ‘the one who takes charge after him’ or use an administrative term such as ‘successor’?
