What Has Been Related About A Man Who Institutes An Endowment Sunan Abi Dawud 2878
Umar acquired land in Khaibar and came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and said, "I have acquired land in Khaibar which is more precious to me than any property I have ever acquired. What do you command me to do with it?" He replied, "If you wish, you can tie up its principal and give it in charity." So Umar gave it in charity on the condition that its principal would not be sold, nor given away, nor inherited, (giving its produce) to the poor, relatives, slaves, in the path of Allah, and to the traveller. Bishr added in his narration: "And the guest." Then they agreed: "There is no blame upon the one who administers it if he eats from it in a customary manner or feeds a friend, without acquiring wealth for himself through it." Bishr added in his narration: And Muhammad said, "Without accumulating wealth."
