Muhammad ibn al-Sabbah related to us: Sharik related to us, from al-Miqdam ibn Shurayh, from his father, who said: I asked ‘A’ishah about going out to the desert. I said, “Did the Prophet, Allah bless him and grant him peace, ever go out to the desert?” She replied, “Yes, he used to go out to these watercourses in the lowlands.”
Notes and open questions — unreviewed
The verb يبدو means to go out to the open country/desert. التلاع are low-lying watercourses or valleys.
كَانَ يَبْدُو إِلَى هَؤُلاَءِ التِّلاعِ.
التلاع are valleys or watercourses; the English witness calls them hillside streams.
Does “watercourses in the lowlands” convey the setting more precisely?
