حَدَّثَنَا الْمُقْرِئُ، قَالَ‏:‏ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ‏:‏ مَنْ أَحَبَّ أَخًا لِلَّهِ، فِي اللهِ، قَالَ‏:‏ إِنِّي أُحِبُّكَ لِلَّهِ، فَدَخَلاَ جَمِيعًا الْجَنَّةَ، كَانَ الَّذِي أَحَبَّ فِي اللهِ أَرْفَعَ دَرَجَةً لِحُبِّهِ، عَلَى الَّذِي أَحَبَّهُ لَهُ‏.‏

Translation

Al-Muqri’ narrated to us; he said: ‘Abd al-Rahman narrated to us, from ‘Abd Allah ibn Yazid, from ‘Abd Allah ibn ‘Amr, from the Prophet ﷺ, who said: “Whoever loves a brother for Allah, in Allah, and says, ‘I love you for Allah,’ they will both enter the Garden, and the one who loved for Allah will be higher in rank because of his love than the one whom he loved for His sake.”

  • عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ‏:‏ مَنْ أَحَبَّ أَخًا لِلَّهِ،

    The Arabic wording repeats لِلَّهِ and فِي اللهِ; the relation between the two phrases is elliptical.

    Is “for Allah, in Allah” the clearest way to preserve both phrases without adding interpretation?
