حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عُمَرَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مُعْتَمِرٌ قَالَ: ذَكَرْتُ لأَبِي حَدِيثَ أَبِي عُثْمَانَ، عَنْ سَلْمَانَ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ: إِنَّ أَهْلَ الْمَعْرُوفِ فِي الدُّنْيَا هُمْ أَهْلُ الْمَعْرُوفِ فِي الْآخِرَةِ، فَقَالَ: إِنِّي سَمِعْتُهُ مِنْ أَبِي عُثْمَانَ يُحَدِّثُهُ، عَنْ سَلْمَانَ، فَعَرَفْتُ أَنَّ ذَاكَ كَذَاكَ، فَمَا حَدَّثْتُ بِهِ أَحَدًا قَطُّ.

al-Hasan ibn Umar narrated to us. He said: Mu‘tamir narrated to us, saying: I mentioned to my father the report of Abu Uthman, from Salman, who said: ‘The people of good in this world are the people of good in the Hereafter.’ My father said: ‘I heard Abu Uthman relating it from Salman, and I knew that this was so.’ He never narrated it to anyone.

The final ‘he’ continues the father’s first-person statement in context: he says he had heard the report from Abu Uthman and did not narrate it to anyone.
فَقَالَ: إِنِّي سَمِعْتُهُ مِنْ أَبِي عُثْمَانَ يُحَدِّثُهُ، عَنْ سَلْمَانَ، فَعَرَفْتُ أَنَّ ذَاكَ كَذَاكَ، فَمَا حَدَّثْتُ بِهِ أَحَدًا قَطُّ.
The final first-person statement follows the father’s quoted speech, and its antecedent is understood from context rather than restated.
