Ibn Abi Shayba narrated to us, saying: Yahya ibn ‘Isa narrated to us, from al-A‘mash, from Habib, from Sa‘id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn ‘Abbas, who said: ‘Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, said, “Come, let us go out to the land of our people.” So we went out. Ubayy ibn Ka‘b and I were at the rear of the people when a cloud gathered. Ubayy said, “O Allah, turn its harm away from us.” We caught up with them, and their mounts had become wet. They said, “What has befallen you that has also befallen us?” I said, “He asked Allah, Mighty and Majestic, to turn its harm away from us.” ‘Umar said, “Why did you not pray for us along with yourselves?”

The question is contextually elliptical: the companions’ mounts were wet while Ibn ‘Abbas and Ubayy’s were apparently not. The supplied English witness makes the contrast explicit (‘What fell on us did not fall on you?’), while the Arabic wording as transmitted here has no explicit negation.
Review how to convey the contextual contrast without adding a negation absent from the Arabic text.
