Muhammad ibn Salam narrated to us, saying: Muhammad ibn al-Fudayl ibn Ghazwan informed us, from Mughira, from Umm Musa, who said: I heard ‘Ali, may Allah’s blessings be upon him, say: The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, ordered ‘Abd Allah ibn Mas‘ud to climb a tree and bring him something from it. His Companions looked at ‘Abd Allah’s shins and laughed at how thin they were. The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, ‘Why are you laughing? ‘Abd Allah’s leg will weigh more heavily in the balance than Mount Uhud.’

Notes and open questions — unreviewed

The Arabic describes the thinness or slenderness of his lower legs; the supplied witness says thigh, but ساق is shin/lower leg.

Confirm the body-part wording and the best English equivalent for حموشة.

The English witness renders رجل as ‘foot’; the Arabic term can mean foot or leg.

Review whether ‘foot’ or ‘leg’ best reflects رجل in this context.
