Book 50, Hadith 26
حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَجْلاَنَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا الْقَعْقَاعُ بْنُ حَكِيمٍ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم: إِيَّاكُمْ وَالسَّمَرَ بَعْدَ هُدُوءِ اللَّيْلِ، فَإِنَّ أَحَدَكُمْ لاَ يَدْرِي مَا يَبُثُّ اللَّهُ مِنْ خَلْقِهِ، غَلِّقُوا الأَبْوَابَ، وَأَوْكُوا السِّقَاءَ، وَأَكْفِئُوا الإِنَاءَ، وَأَطْفِئُوا الْمَصَابِيحَ.

Musaddad related to us: Yahya ibn Sa‘id related to us, from Ibn ‘Ajlan, who said: al-Qa‘qa‘ ibn Hakim related to us, from Jabir ibn ‘Abd Allah, who said: The Messenger of Allah, Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: ‘Beware of staying up in conversation after the night has grown still, for none of you knows what creatures Allah may send forth. Close the doors, tie up the waterskins, turn the vessels upside down, and extinguish the lamps.’
