Book 50, Hadith 8

Musa ibn Isma‘il related to us: Wuhayb related to us: Suhayl ibn Abi Salih related to us, from his father, from Abu Hurayrah, who said: When the Messenger of Allah, Allah bless him and grant him peace, went to bed, he would say: ‘O Allah, Lord of the heavens and the earth and Lord of all things, Splitter of the grain and the date-stone, Sender down of the Torah, the Gospel and the Qur’an, I seek refuge in You from every evil being whose forelock You hold. You are the First, and there is nothing before You; You are the Last, and there is nothing after You; You are the Outward, and there is nothing above You; You are the Inward, and there is nothing beneath You. Settle my debt for me and free me from poverty.’
Notes and open questions — unreviewed
The Arabic says “date-stone” (al-nawa), not generic seeds. The four divine-name clauses are restored from Arabic.
No uncertainty in the Arabic wording; this is a substantial omission in the English witness.
None; translation follows the complete Arabic source.
