Book 50, Hadith 9
حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَاحِدِ بْنُ زِيَادٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا الْعَلاَءُ بْنُ الْمُسَيَّبِ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، عَنِ الْبَرَاءِ بْنِ عَازِبٍ قَالَ: كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم إِذَا أَوَى إِلَى فِرَاشِهِ نَامَ عَلَى شِقِّهِ الأَيْمَنِ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: اللَّهُمَّ أَسْلَمْتُ نَفْسِي إِلَيْكَ، وَوَجَّهْتُ بِوَجْهِي إِلَيْكَ، وَفَوَّضْتُ أَمْرِي إِلَيْكَ، وَأَلْجَأْتُ ظَهْرِي إِلَيْكَ، رَغْبَةً وَرَهْبَةً إِلَيْكَ، لاَ مَنْجَا وَلاَ مَلْجَأَ مِنْكَ إِلاَّ إِلَيْكَ، آمَنْتُ بِكِتَابِكَ الَّذِي أَنْزَلْتَ، وَنَبِيِّكَ الَّذِي أَرْسَلْتَ، قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم: مَنْ قَالَهُنَّ ثُمَّ مَاتَ تَحْتَ لَيْلَتِهِ مَاتَ عَلَى الْفِطْرَةِ.

Musaddad related to us: Abd al-Wahid ibn Ziyad related to us: al-‘Ala’ ibn al-Musayyib related to us: my father related to me, from al-Bara’ ibn ‘Azib, who said: When the Messenger of Allah, Allah bless him and grant him peace, went to bed, he would lie on his right side, then say: ‘O Allah, I surrender myself to You, turn my face toward You, entrust my affair to You, and seek refuge with You with my back, longing for You and fearing You. There is no escape and no refuge from You except with You. I believe in Your Book which You sent down and Your Prophet whom You sent.’ The Messenger of Allah, Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: ‘Whoever says these words and then dies during that night dies upon the fitrah.’
