Interpretation of Dreams - Sahih al-Bukhari 6984

The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "A true good dream is from Allah, and a bad dream is from Satan."

Scholarly Commentary

This noble hadith establishes the divine origin of righteous dreams and identifies the source of disturbing visions. True dreams constitute one of the forty-six parts of prophethood, serving as spiritual communications from the Divine Realm.

Good dreams that bring comfort and guidance are from Allah's mercy, offering glimpses of unseen realities and spiritual insights. These visions may serve as warnings, glad tidings, or divine inspiration for the believer.

Evil dreams originate from Satan's whisperings, intended to cause fear, distress, and spiritual confusion. The scholars advise that upon experiencing such dreams, one should seek refuge in Allah, spit three times to the left, change sleeping position, and perform prayer.

This distinction teaches believers to discern between divine inspiration and satanic interference, cultivating spiritual awareness while maintaining proper Islamic etiquette regarding dream interpretation.
