Sahih al-Bukhari 304

Said ibn Abi Maryam narrated to us, saying: Muhammad ibn Jafar informed us, saying: Zayd—meaning Ibn Aslam—informed me, from Iyad ibn Abdullah, from Abu Said al-Khudri, who said: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) went out to the prayer place on Eid al-Adha—or Eid al-Fitr—and passed by the women. He said: “Women, give charity, for I have been shown that you will form the majority of the people of the Fire.” They asked: “Why is that, Messenger of Allah?” He said: “You frequently curse and are ungrateful to your husbands. I have not seen anyone more able than you, despite being deficient in reason and religion, to overcome the judgment of a sensible man.” They asked: “What is our deficiency in religion and reason, Messenger of Allah?” He said: “Is not the testimony of a woman equal to half the testimony of a man?” They said: “Yes.” He said: “That is the deficiency in her reason. Does she not stop praying and fasting when she menstruates?” They said: “Yes.” He said: “That is the deficiency in her religion.”
