حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ، عَنْ مَالِكِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَسْلَمَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عُمَرَ ـ رضى الله عنه ـ قَالَ لَوْلاَ آخِرُ الْمُسْلِمِينَ مَا فُتِحَتْ عَلَيْهِمْ قَرْيَةٌ إِلاَّ قَسَمْتُهَا، كَمَا قَسَمَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم خَيْبَرَ.

ʿUmar said: “Were it not for the Muslims who come later, I would divide among the fighters every village the Muslims conquer, just as the Prophet divided Khaybar.”
