حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ نُمَيْرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ، أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ، رَأَيْتُ بِيَدِ ابْنِ أَبِي أَوْفَى ضَرْبَةً، قَالَ ضُرِبْتُهَا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَوْمَ حُنَيْنٍ‏.‏ قُلْتُ شَهِدْتَ حُنَيْنًا قَالَ قَبْلَ ذَلِكَ‏.‏

Ismail said: “I saw a wound on the hand of Ibn Abi Awfa. He said, ‘I received this while with the Prophet on the day of Hunayn.’ I asked, ‘Did you witness Hunayn?’ He replied, ‘Before that’”—that is, he had witnessed earlier campaigns as well.
