Commentary
This noble hadith contains profound wisdom regarding the temporal and spiritual status of the Muslim Ummah. "Last in the world" refers to our chronological appearance among nations, being the final religious community sent to mankind. "Foremost on the Day of Resurrection" signifies our precedence in entering Paradise, receiving divine mercy, and interceding for other nations.
Imam Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani explains in Fath al-Bari that although Muslims appeared last historically, they will be first in reward and honor on Judgment Day due to their adherence to the complete and perfected Shariah. This precedence manifests through earlier reckoning, quicker crossing of the Sirat, and priority in entering Jannah.
The hadith consoles Muslims during times of worldly weakness, reminding them that true honor lies not in temporal power but in divine pleasure and eternal reward. It encourages patience during hardship and steadfastness in faith, knowing that ultimate triumph awaits in the Hereafter.
