Translation
Narrated 'Ubada bin As-Samit

I, along with a group of people, gave the pledge of allegiance to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ). He said, "I take your Pledge on the condition that you (1) will not join partners in worship with Allah, (2) will not steal, (3) will not commit illegal sexual intercourse, (4) will not kill your offspring, (5) will not slander, (6) and will not disobey me when I order you to do good. Whoever among you will abide by his pledge, his reward will be with Allah, and whoever commits any of those sins and receives the punishment in this world, that punishment will be an expiation for his sins and purification; but if Allah screens him, then it will be up to Allah to punish him if He will or excuse Him, if He will."

Oneness, Uniqueness of Allah (Tawheed)

Sahih al-Bukhari - Hadith 7468

The Foundation of Faith

The Prophet's pledge begins with the most fundamental principle: Tawheed - affirming Allah's Oneness and avoiding shirk (associating partners with Allah). This establishes that all other obligations stem from this primary covenant with the Creator.

Protection of Society's Fabric

The prohibition of theft safeguards property rights, while forbidding illegal sexual intercourse protects lineage and family honor. Killing offspring preserves future generations and demonstrates trust in Allah's provision.

Social Harmony and Obedience

The ban on slander maintains social cohesion and protects reputations. Obedience to the Prophet in matters of good establishes the principle of following divine guidance through proper channels of authority.

Divine Justice and Mercy

The concluding portion reveals Allah's perfect justice: worldly punishment serves as purification, while hidden sins remain subject to Allah's infinite wisdom - either punishing with perfect justice or forgiving with boundless mercy.
