Translation
Narrated Um-`Atiya

We were ordered to go out (for `Id) and also to take along with us the menstruating women, mature girls and virgins staying in seclusion. (Ibn `Aun said, "Or mature virgins staying in seclusion)." The menstruating women could present themselves at the religious gathering and invocation of Muslims but should keep away from their Musalla.

The Two Festivals (Eids) - Sahih al-Bukhari 981

This narration from Umm 'Atiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) establishes important rulings regarding Eid prayer attendance. The command to bring menstruating women, mature girls, and secluded virgins demonstrates the comprehensive nature of this Islamic gathering.

Scholarly Commentary

The command for all women to attend Eid prayers, including those in menstruation, emphasizes the communal nature of this obligation and its spiritual significance. Menstruating women participate in the takbirat and supplications while maintaining distance from the prayer area.

Mature girls and secluded virgins are specifically mentioned to highlight that even those normally excused from public gatherings should witness this manifestation of Muslim unity and divine remembrance.

The distinction between attending the gathering (religious benefits) and staying away from the Musalla (prayer area) shows Islam's balanced approach to ritual purity while ensuring no one is deprived of spiritual rewards.

Legal Rulings Derived

Eid prayer is a communal obligation where women's participation is strongly recommended, reflecting Islam's recognition of their spiritual needs.

Menstruating women may attend religious gatherings for remembrance of Allah but must avoid prayer areas, maintaining the sanctity of ritual purity requirements.

The Prophet's instruction demonstrates that Islamic rituals serve both spiritual and social purposes, strengthening community bonds across all segments of society.
