Bulugh al-Maram 738

Ka‘b ibn ‘Ujrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: I was brought to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) while lice were falling across my face. He said, ‘I did not think your pain had reached the severity I see. Can you obtain a sheep?’ I replied, ‘No.’ He said, ‘Then fast for three days, or feed six poor people, giving each poor person half a sa‘.’ Agreed upon.

1 — Reported by al-Bukhari (1816) and Muslim (1201), through ‘Abd Allah ibn Ma‘qil, who said: I sat with Ka‘b ibn ‘Ujrah (may Allah be pleased with him) and asked him about the expiation. He said: ‘It was revealed specifically concerning me, but its ruling applies generally to you…’ [then he narrated the hadith]. I say: The wording is al-Bukhari’s.
