‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The polytheists would not depart until the sun rose, saying, ‘Shine forth, Thabir!’¹ The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) opposed them and departed before sunrise. Reported by al-Bukhari.
1 — Thabir, pronounced with an a on its first consonant and a kasrah on its second, is a well-known mountain on the left of the route to Mina and the largest of Mecca’s mountains. 2 — Sound. Reported by al-Bukhari (1684), from ‘Amr ibn Maymun, who said: I witnessed ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) pray the dawn prayer at Jam‘, then stand and say… [then he narrated the hadith].
