حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ عَمَّارٍ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الصَّبَّاحِ، قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ رَجَاءٍ الْمَكِّيُّ، عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ أُمَيَّةَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُبَيْدِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عَمَّارٍ، - وَهُوَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ - قَالَ سَأَلْتُ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنِ الضَّبُعِ أَصَيْدٌ هُوَ قَالَ نَعَمْ . قُلْتُ آكُلُهَا قَالَ نَعَمْ . قُلْتُ أَشَىْءٌ سَمِعْتَ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ قَالَ نَعَمْ .

Hishām ibn ʿAmmār and Muḥammad ibn al-Ṣabbāḥ narrated to us; they said: ʿAbd Allāh ibn Rajāʾ al-Makkī narrated to us, from Ismāʿīl ibn Umayyah, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUbayd ibn ʿUmayr, from Ibn Abī ʿAmmār—namely, ʿAbd al-Raḥmān—who said: I asked Jābir ibn ʿAbd Allāh about the hyena: Is it game? He said: Yes. I asked: May I eat it? He said: Yes. I asked: Is this something you heard from the Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him)? He said: Yes.
