Abū Isḥāq al-Harawī Ibrāhīm ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Ḥātim narrated to us: Ismāʿīl ibn ʿUlayyah narrated to us, from Saʿīd ibn Abī ʿArūbah, from Qatādah, from Sulaymān al-Yashkurī, from Jābir ibn ʿAbd Allāh, that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not forbid the desert monitor lizard, but found it distasteful. It is food commonly eaten by shepherds, and God, Mighty and Sublime, benefits many people through it. If I had one, I would eat it. [Another chain:] Abū Salamah Yaḥyā ibn Khalaf narrated to us: ʿAbd al-Aʿlā narrated to us: Saʿīd ibn Abī ʿArūbah narrated to us, from Qatādah, from Sulaymān, from Jābir, from ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb, from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), with similar wording.
