حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحِيمِ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، عَنْ دَاوُدَ بْنِ أَبِي هِنْدٍ، عَنْ أَبِي نَضْرَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ، قَالَ نَادَى رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ رَجُلٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الصُّفَّةِ حِينَ انْصَرَفَ مِنَ الصَّلاَةِ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ أَرْضَنَا أَرْضٌ مَضَبَّةٌ فَمَا تَرَى فِي الضِّبَابِ قَالَ " بَلَغَنِي أَنَّهُ أُمَّةٌ مُسِخَتْ " . فَلَمْ يَأْمُرْ بِهِ وَلَمْ يَنْهَ عَنْهُ .

Abū Kurayb narrated to us: ʿAbd al-Raḥīm ibn Sulaymān narrated to us, from Dāwūd ibn Abī Hind, from Abū Naḍrah, from Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī, who said: When the Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) had finished the prayer, a man from the People of the Bench called out to him: Messenger of God, our land is full of desert monitor lizards. What do you think about eating them? He said: I have been told that they are a community that was transformed. He neither ordered it nor prohibited it.
