Sunan Ibn Majah 1337
Abdullah ibn Ahmad ibn Bashir ibn Dhakwan al-Dimashqi narrated to us; al-Walid ibn Muslim narrated to us; Abu Rafi‘ narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Mulaykah, from Abd al-Rahman ibn al-Sa’ib, who said: Sa‘d ibn Abi Waqqas came to us after his sight had gone. I greeted him, and he asked, ‘Who are you?’ I told him. He said, ‘Welcome, my nephew. I have heard that you have a fine voice in reciting the Qur’an. I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: “This Qur’an was sent down with sorrow. When you recite it, weep; if you do not weep, then affect weeping, and recite it melodiously. Whoever does not recite it melodiously is not one of us.”’
