Arabic hadith text
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ، عَنْ سُهَيْلٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ " لاَ يَجْزِي وَلَدٌ وَالِدَهُ إِلاَّ أَنْ يَجِدَهُ مَمْلُوكًا فَيَشْتَرِيَهُ فَيُعْتِقَهُ " .

It was narrated that Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah said: Jarir narrated to us, from Suhayl, from his father, from Abu Hurayrah, that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: ‘A child cannot repay his parent unless he finds him enslaved, buys him, and sets him free.’
