It was narrated that Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah said: ‘Abd al-Rahim ibn Sulayman narrated to us, from Wasil ibn al-Sa’ib, from Abu Sawrah, from Abu Ayyub al-Ansari, who said: ‘We asked, “Messenger of Allah, we know this greeting of peace; what is announcing one’s presence?” He replied, “A person says words of glorification, magnification, and praise of Allah, clears his throat, and lets the people of the house know he is there.”’
