Uthman ibn Abi Shaybah narrated to us; Muhammad ibn al-Fudayl narrated to us, from Layth, from Ata, from Attab ibn Asid, who said: When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent him to Mecca, he forbade him from taking a markup on what he had not assumed liability for.

Shiff means a surplus or markup; the phrase ma lam yudman refers to goods whose liability or risk one has not assumed.
Does “markup on what he had not assumed liability for” preserve the meaning without overstating the legal scope?
