The Legal Punishment for the Thief Sunan Ibn Majah 2585
Arabic hadith text
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مَرْوَانَ الْعُثْمَانِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، أَنَّ عَمْرَةَ، أَخْبَرَتْهُ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، قَالَتْ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم " لاَ تُقْطَعُ الْيَدُ إِلاَّ فِي رُبُعِ دِينَارٍ فَصَاعِدًا "
Translation
It was narrated from Aishah that the Messenger of Allah (S.A.W.) said
“Do not cut off (the thief's hand) except for something worth one quarter of a Dinar or more
