Ismail ibn Musa reported to us: Hushaim reported to us. Sahl ibn Abi Sahl reported to us: Hafs ibn Ghiyath reported to us. Both reported from Ashath, from Adi ibn Thabit, from al-Bara ibn Azib, who said: My maternal uncle passed by me—the narrator Hushaim named him in his report as al-Harith ibn Amr—and the Prophet (Allah bless him and grant him peace) had given him a banner. I asked him, ‘Where are you going?’ He said, ‘The Messenger of Allah sent me to a man who married his father’s wife after his father’s death, and ordered me to strike his neck.’
Notes and open questions — unreviewed
The Arabic identifies the maternal uncle as al-Harith ibn Amr in Hushaim’s version; both transmission routes are retained.
