Ya'qub ibn Humayd ibn Kasib informed us; Muhammad ibn 'Uthman al-Jumahi informed us; al-Hakam ibn Aban narrated to us, from 'Ikrimah, from Ibn 'Abbas, from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), who said: Whoever conceals the shameful matter of his Muslim brother, Allah will conceal his shameful matter on the Day of Resurrection; and whoever exposes the shameful matter of his Muslim brother, Allah will expose his, until He disgraces him through it in his own home.
Notes and open questions — unreviewed
The Arabic repeats the word awrah, literally a vulnerable or private matter; “shameful matter” follows the sense in context. The English witness supplies “hidden fault” as an interpretive gloss.
