حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ عَمَّارٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الدَّرَاوَرْدِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْهَادِ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ التَّيْمِيِّ، عَنْ بُسْرِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ أَبِي قَيْسٍ، - مَوْلَى عَمْرِو بْنِ الْعَاصِ - عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ الْعَاصِ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَقُولُ " إِذَا حَكَمَ الْحَاكِمُ فَاجْتَهَدَ فَأَصَابَ فَلَهُ أَجْرَانِ وَإِذَا حَكَمَ فَاجْتَهَدَ فَأَخْطَأَ فَلَهُ أَجْرٌ " . قَالَ يَزِيدُ فَحَدَّثْتُ بِهِ أَبَا بَكْرِ بْنَ عَمْرِو بْنِ حَزْمٍ، فَقَالَ هَكَذَا حَدَّثَنِيهِ أَبُو سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَة.َ

ʿAmr ibn al-ʿAs said that he heard the Messenger of Allah say: ‘When a judge exercises independent judgment and is correct, he receives two rewards; when he judges, exercises independent judgment, and is mistaken, he receives one reward.’ Yazid said: I related this to Abu Bakr ibn ʿAmr ibn Hazm, and he said, ‘Abu Salamah narrated it to me in the same way, from Abu Hurairah.’
Notes and open questions — unreviewed
The report preserves the distinction between a judge who reaches the correct decision and one who errs after exercising judgment. A second route is mentioned through Abu Salamah from Abu Hurairah.
