Ibn ‘Abbas reported: We travelled with the Messenger of Allah between Mecca and Medina and passed through a valley. He asked, ‘Which valley is this?’ They said, ‘The valley of al-Azraq.’ He said: ‘It is as though I see Moses’—then he mentioned something about his complexion and hair—‘with two fingers in his ears, loudly calling upon Allah with the talbiyah as he passes through this valley.’ He said: Then we travelled on until we came to a mountain pass. He asked, ‘Which pass is this?’ They said, ‘Harsha—or Lift.’ He said: ‘It is as though I see Yunus on a red she-camel, wearing a woollen cloak, its nose-rein of palm fibre, passing through this valley and calling out the talbiyah.’ Muslim transmitted it.
