Ibn ‘Umar reported: ‘Umar sent out an army and appointed over them a man named Sariyah. While ‘Umar was delivering a sermon, he began shouting, ‘Commander of the Believers! The enemy has met us and defeated us!’ Then someone shouted, ‘Sariyah, to the mountain!’ We turned our backs to the mountain, and God, exalted is He, defeated them. [Al-Bayhaqi transmitted it in Dala’il al-Nubuwwah]
