Muadh reported: I was riding behind the Prophet on a donkey called Ufayr when he said, “Muadh, do you know what right God has over His servants and what right the servants have over God?” I said, “God and His Messenger know best.” He said, “God’s right over His servants is that they worship Him and associate nothing with Him; and the servants’ right over God is that He not punish anyone who associates nothing with Him.” I said, “Messenger of God, shall I give people this good news?” He said, “Do not give it to them, lest they rely on it alone.”
