Nāfiʿ reported: A man came to Ibn ʿUmar and said, ‘So-and-so sends you greetings of peace.’ Ibn ʿUmar replied, ‘I have heard that he has introduced an innovation. If he has, do not convey greetings of peace from me to him, for I heard the Messenger of God say, “There will occur in this community—or in my community; the narrator was unsure—a sinking, a transformation, or a pelting among the people of the divine decree.”’ Al-Tirmidhi, Abu Dawud, and Ibn Mājah transmitted it. Al-Tirmidhi said: ‘This is a sound, good, uncommon hadith.’
