Mishkat al-Masabih 152
Arabic hadith text
وَعَن عبد الله بن عَمْرو قَالَ: هَجَّرْتُ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَوْمًا قَالَ: فَسَمِعَ أَصْوَاتَ رَجُلَيْنِ اخْتَلَفَا فِي آيَةٍ فَخَرَجَ عَلَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُعْرَفُ فِي وَجْهِهِ الْغَضَبُ فَقَالَ: «إِنَّمَا هَلَكَ مَنْ كَانَ قَبْلَكُمْ باختلافهم فِي الْكتاب» . رَوَاهُ مُسلم
Translation
ʿAbd Allah ibn ʿAmr reported: One day I went early to the Messenger of God. He heard the voices of two men disputing over a verse. The Messenger of God came out to us, and anger could be seen on his face. He said, ‘Those before you perished only because they disagreed about the Book.’ Muslim transmitted it.
