Jabir reported that the Messenger of God said, “Iblis sets his throne upon the water, then sends out his detachments. The one nearest to him in rank is the one who causes the greatest trial. One of them comes and says, ‘I did such and such,’ but he replies, ‘You have done nothing.’ Then another comes and says, ‘I did not leave him until I separated him from his wife.’ He brings him close and says, ‘Yes—you!’” Al-Aʿmash said, “I think he said: ‘Then he embraces him.’” Muslim transmitted it.
