Translation

Ibn Masʿud reported that the Messenger of God said, “Satan has an approach to the child of Adam, and the angel has an approach. Satan’s approach is a promise of evil and a denial of the truth; the angel’s approach is a promise of good and an affirmation of the truth. Whoever experiences the latter should know that it is from God and praise God; whoever experiences the other should seek refuge in God from Satan, the accursed.”

Then he recited: “Satan promises you poverty and commands you to indecency”—the verse. Al-Tirmidhi transmitted it and said, “This is a hasan gharib hadith.”
