وَعَنْ ثَوْبَانَ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «إِنَّ هَذَا السَّهَرَ جُهْدٌ وَثِقَلٌ فَإِذَا أَوْتَرَ أَحَدُكُمْ فَلْيَرْكَعْ رَكْعَتَيْنِ فَإِنْ قَامَ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ وَإِلَّا كَانَتَا لَهُ» . رَوَاهُ الدَّارِمِيُّ

Thauban reported that the Prophet said: This staying awake is tiring and burdensome. When one of you prays witr, let him pray two units. If he gets up during the night, that is good; otherwise, those two will suffice for him. Al-Darimi transmitted it.
