Abu Huraira reported that he heard the Messenger of God say: The first deed for which a servant will be called to account on the Day of Resurrection is his prayer. If it is sound, he will have succeeded and prospered; if it is deficient, he will have failed and lost. If anything is lacking from his obligatory prayer, the Blessed and Exalted Lord will say: See whether My servant has any voluntary prayers, so that what was lacking in the obligatory prayer may be completed from them. Then the rest of his deeds will be assessed in the same way. Another report adds: Then zakat will be treated in the same way, and then deeds will be taken into account accordingly. Abu Dawud transmitted it. Ahmad transmitted it from an unnamed man.
