Jundub ibn Abd Allah said: I was present with the Messenger of God at the Festival of Sacrifice on the Day of Sacrifice. He had only just finished his prayer and given the salutation when he saw sacrificial meat from animals that had been slaughtered before he finished praying. He said: “Whoever slaughtered before he prayed—or before we prayed—must slaughter another in its place.”

In another version, he said: The Prophet prayed on the Day of Sacrifice, then delivered a sermon, then slaughtered an animal. He said: “Whoever slaughtered before he prayed must slaughter another in its place. Whoever has not slaughtered should slaughter in the name of God.”
