وَعَن أبي بصرة الْغِفَارِيّ قَالَ: صَلَّى بِنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِالْمُخَمَّصِ صَلَاةَ الْعَصْرِ فَقَالَ: «إِنَّ هَذِهِ صَلَاةٌ عُرِضَتْ عَلَى مَنْ كَانَ قَبْلَكُمْ فَضَيَّعُوهَا فَمَنْ حَافَظَ عَلَيْهَا كَانَ لَهُ أَجْرُهُ مَرَّتَيْنِ وَلَا صَلَاةَ بَعْدَهَا حَتَّى يَطْلُعَ الشَّاهِدُ» . وَالشَّاهِد النَّجْم. رَوَاهُ مُسلم

Abu Basrah al-Ghifari reported: The Messenger of God (peace be upon him) led us in the afternoon prayer at al-Mukhammas and said: ‘This is a prayer that was presented to those before you, but they neglected it. Whoever maintains it will have a double reward. There is no prayer after it until the witness rises.’ The witness is the star. Muslim transmitted it.

The English witness adds an explanation that ‘the witness’ means stars becoming visible generally, rather than a particular star; the Arabic note says only ‘the witness is the star.’
