Abu Atiyyah al-Uqayli said: Malik ibn al-Huwayrith used to come to our prayer place and speak with us. One day, when the time for prayer came, Abu Atiyyah said, we told him, Please go forward and lead the prayer. He said to us, Put forward one of your own men to lead you in prayer, and I will tell you why I do not lead you. I heard the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, say: When someone visits a people, he must not lead them in prayer; rather, a man from among them should lead them. Abu Dawud, al-Tirmidhi, and al-Nasai transmitted it, except that al-Nasai limited his report to the wording of the Prophet.
