Arabic hadith text
وَعَنْ وَائِلٍ الْحَضْرَمِيِّ أَنَّ طَارِقَ بْنَ سُوَيْدٍ سَأَلَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ الْخَمْرِ فَنَهَاهُ. فَقَالَ: إِنَّمَا أَصْنَعُهَا لِلدَّوَاءِ فَقَالَ: «إِنَّهُ لَيْسَ بِدَوَاءٍ وَلَكِنَّهُ دَاءٌ» . رَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ
Translation
Wa'il al-Hadrami reported that Tariq ibn Suwayd asked the Prophet about wine, and he forbade it. Tariq said, I make it only for medicine. He replied, It is not a medicine; it is a disease. Muslim transmitted it.
