Arabic hadith text
وَعَن سَلمَة ابْن المحبق: أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي غَزْوَة تَبُوك أَتَى على بَيْتٍ فَإِذَا قِرْبَةٌ مُعَلَّقَةٌ فَسَأَلَ الْمَاءَ فَقَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّهَا مَيْتَةٌ: «فَقَالَ دِبَاغُهَا طهورها» . رَوَاهُ أَحْمد وَأَبُو دَاوُد
Translation
Salama ibn al-Muḥabbiq said: ‘During the expedition to Tabūk, the Messenger of Allah came to a house and saw a waterskin hanging there. He asked for water. They said: “Messenger of Allah, it is from a dead animal.” He replied: “Its tanning is its purification.”’ Aḥmad and Abū Dāwūd transmitted it.
