Sa‘d ibn Abi Waqqas reported: We were with the Messenger of God (peace be upon him), and he said, ‘Is one of you unable to earn a thousand good deeds each day?’ Someone among those present asked, ‘How can one of us earn a thousand good deeds?’ He replied, ‘He glorifies God one hundred times, and a thousand good deeds are recorded for him, or a thousand of his sins are removed.’ Muslim transmitted it. In his book, the source notes: In all transmissions from Musa al-Juhani, the wording is ‘or a thousand are removed.’ Abu Bakr al-Barqani reports that Shu‘bah, Abu ‘Awanah, and Yahya ibn Sa‘id al-Qattan transmitted it from Musa with ‘and a thousand are removed,’ without the word ‘or’; this is the wording in al-Humaydi’s book. The Arabic source grades it sahih (al-Albani).
