Mishkat al-Masabih 2344
وَعَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " إِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ قَالَ: وَعِزَّتِكَ يَا رَبِّ لَا أَبْرَحُ أُغْوِي عِبَادَكَ مَا دَامَتْ أَرْوَاحُهُمْ فِي أَجْسَادِهِمْ فَقَالَ الرَّبُّ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ: وَعِزَّتِي وَجَلَالِي وَارْتِفَاعِ مَكَانِي لَا أَزَالُ أَغْفِرُ لَهُمْ مَا اسْتَغْفَرُونِي " رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ
Abu Sa‘id reported that the Messenger of God (peace be upon him) said: ‘Satan said, “By Your might, my Lord, I will continue to mislead Your servants as long as their souls remain in their bodies.” The Lord, Mighty and Majestic, replied, “By My might, My majesty, and the loftiness of My station, I will continue to forgive them so long as they ask My forgiveness.”’ Ahmad transmitted it. The Arabic source grades it weak (al-Albani).
