‘Abd Allah reported that when evening came, the Prophet ﷺ would say: “We have entered the evening, and sovereignty belongs to Allah; praise belongs to Allah. There is no god but Allah alone, without partner. To Him belong sovereignty and praise, and He has power over all things. My Lord, I ask You for the good within this night and what follows it, and I seek refuge in You from the evil within this night and what follows it. My Lord, I seek refuge in You from laziness and from the afflictions of senility—or disbelief.” In one narration: “from the afflictions of senility and arrogance. My Lord, I seek refuge in You from punishment in the Fire and punishment in the grave.” When morning came, he would also say, “We have entered the morning, and sovereignty belongs to Allah.” Reported by Abu Dawud and al-Tirmidhi. The version of al-Tirmidhi omits the phrase “from the evil of disbelief.” The hadith was not studied by al-Albani.
